The manipulation of live and highly virulent viruses constitutes a potential risk in the process of producing vaccines and diagnostics for use in humans as well as in animals. Our choice is to work with baculoviruses since they have been shown to have a very narrow host range of infection, are highly specific to insect cells and therefore do not replicate in mammalian cells. The non-use of mammalian derived products at any stage of the recombinant protein production process assures maximum security with regard to the biological safety of the final product. |
